Set on the main road up towards the town of Casares, Venta Garcia is situated on the site of an old venta but has been modernised to provide a stunning contemporary restaurant in a beautiful location.
This family run business has had several additions since my last visit. The front terrace is now fully enclosed with glass curtain windows that are presumably opened up in the hotter months and there is a smart shaded area outside. The main interior dining room offers stunning views during the daytime and an intimate atmosphere at night.
The food has always been good, but on a recent excursion we were able to choose from a the a la carte menu or the special menu that is available on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening.
This 26 Euro menu was extensive with a choice of 2 dishes plus a pudding, and a bottle of house wine (to be shared between 2 people). To start our party had some delicious Prawns in Batter with Peanut Sauce and a Hot Pot of the day containing chorizo. Main courses included Iberian Pork in Filo Pastry and Roast Lamb. We opted for the Crème Brulee for dessert, but there were several other yummy choices.
Venta Garcia also provides a daily Menu del Dia, which at the time of writing was 12 Euros.
For something a little bit different with good food, a great ambiance and attentive service, Venta Garcia is definitely worth the short drive away from the coast, about 15 minutes from Sabinillas. Take the A377 towards Casares and you will find it on the left hand side, opposite the junction towards Estepona. Make sure you book as its reputation has grown over the years and you wouldn’t want to be disappointed! Sunday lunch is particularly popular.
This blend of old and new works well, and it is good to see a restaurant that provides both a pleasant and affordable experience.
